A naval air squadron (NAS) is the title of naval aviation squadrons in some countries.
The Polish Morski Dywizjon Lotniczy #Naval Air Squadron# was formed in 1920 with two Escadrilles#
The squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm are named as "nnnn Naval Air Squadron" where nnnn is a three or four digit number.
The Air Squadron is a flying club in the United Kingdom founded in 1966 by Peter Vanneck, the Hon. Hugh Astor and Anthony Cayzer - friends who shared a passionate interest in flying light aircraft. Prince Philip is the Squadron’s Air Commodore. Two of the earliest members were Second World War heroes Sir Douglas Bader and Hugh Dundas. Others included Sir Max Aitkin, Tommy Sopwith, Kenneth McAlpine and Lord Waterpark.
The Air Squadron has gone on various group flights in several countries - including: Moscow, Jordan, Tanzania, USA, Pakistan, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine.
The Squadron sponsors several awards, listed as follows by the awarding institution.

Royal Air Force Air Cadets:
Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, or RNAS Yeovilton, (IATA: YEO, ICAO: EGDY) (HMS Heron) is an airfield of the Royal Navy, sited a few miles north of Yeovil, Somerset. It is one of two active Fleet Air Arm bases (the other being RNAS Culdrose) and is currently home to the Royal Navy's Westland Lynx helicopters and the Commando Helicopter Force Westland Sea King HC4.
The site consists of 1,000 acres (1.6 sq mi; 4.0 km2) of airfield sites plus ranges and minor estates. Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton is a large multi-role air station with an annual budget of some £61 million. The airfield is also home to the Fleet Air Arm Museum and the station hosts an annual Air Day.
In 1938, the potential of the land at Yeovilton for use as an airfield was spotted by Westland Aircraft's chief test pilot Harald Penrose and an offer was made to buy the land. The owners, however – the Ecclesiastical Commissioners of the Church of England – refused to sell it. In 1939, the Admiralty Air Division commandeered 417 acres (169 ha) of the land and work began on the construction of the site. The runways being completed in 1941 despite problems with poor drainage. A main runway of 3,645 ft (1,111 m) and three subsidiary runways each of 3,000 ft (914 m) had been constructed.
The Royal Navy (RN) is the United Kingdom's principal naval warfare force. Naval forces were first used by Alfred the Great in the 9th century, and from the early 14th century England's navy was engaged in maritime warfare. The modern Royal Navy traces its origins to the early 16th century, it is the oldest of the armed services and is known as the Senior Service.
During the 17th century the Royal Navy vied with the French Navy for world supremacy, and from the late 17th century until the mid- 1940s it was the most powerful navy in the world, being surpassed by the US Navy after World War II. The Royal Navy played a key part in establishing the British Empire as the dominant world power during the 17th, 18th, 19th and first part of the 20th centuries. Due to this historical prominence, it is usual – even among non-Britons – to refer to it as "The Royal Navy" without qualification.
Following victory in the First World War, the Royal Navy was significantly reduced in size, although at the onset of the Second World War it was still the largest in the world. By the end of the Second World War, however, the United States Navy had emerged as the world's largest. During the course of the Cold War, the Royal Navy transformed into a primarily anti-submarine force, hunting for Soviet submarines, mostly active in the GIUK gap. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, its focus has returned to expeditionary operations around the world.
846 Naval Air Squadron is a squadron of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm.
Between December 1979 and the summer of 2013, 846 Naval Air Squadron operated the Westland Sea King HC4 helicopter to provide troop transport and load lifting support to 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines. Based at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset, 846 NAS stood down in the summer of 2013 and its personnel, buildings and equipment were absorbed into 845 Naval Air Squadron.
The squadron stood up on 30 September 2014 with the AgustaWestland Merlin HC.3.
846 Naval Air Squadron was established in April 1943 at the Naval Air Station Quonset Point, Rhode Island, USA. It was equipped with 12 Grumman Avenger I torpedo bombers. Two months later the squadron embarked on the escort carrier HMS Ravager and was transferred to the UK. Before being assigned to HMS Tracker in January 1944, four Grumman Wildcat V fighters were added to 846 NAS. HMS Tracker was first assigned to convoys going to Gibraltar, then to Murmansk. On the latter voyage, aircraft from 846 NAS attacked eight German U-Boats.

Responsible for training the Royal Navy's future observers, 750 Naval Air Squadron at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose doesn't stop for summer leave. Each year up to 36 students start training there in the hope they have what it takes to make the grade. Our reporter Rebecca Ricks went to find out more.

this video was originally made in 2011 by 845 and 846 naval air squadrons during a busy deployment of afghanistan on op Herrick 14. the stars of the video are the royal navy's aircraft engineers of 845 'B' flight and 846 'D' flight. this is a slighted amended and edited version of the orignal video that was first published in august 2011. the people behind the video are part of the Commando Helicopter Force (CHF)of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm. CHF is an element of the Joint Helicopter Command of the British Armed Forces; which provides Rotary-Wing (helicopter) support to 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines and other elements. 845 and 846 NAS both operate the sea king mk 4 helicopter and are based at RNAS Yeovilton, somerset.
This month marks the 50th anniversary of 845 Naval Air Squadron. Better known as the "Junglies" for their work in Borneo, the Squadron also counts the Falklands War among its battle honours. Veterans of that conflict held a reunion at RNAS Yeovilton on Tuesday, to catch up with old friends, and swap stories.

Made in 1955, MALTA REVISITED shows the men of a Naval Air Reserve Training Unit departing on a cruise to Malta. The unit featured is VP-741 (now VP-16). R5-D Skymaster and P2V Harpoon anti-submarine warfare aircraft are shown operating out of Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida and flying to Europe on the exercise, via the Azores, Morocco, Lisbon, Gibraltar, and finally Malta. At the 8 minute mark, British jet aircraft are seen operating out of Malta, conducting ASW patrols. The journey of the unit continues after the 10 minute mark, with a visit to Istanbul, Athens, Naples, Rome, and England. Admiral Cassidy is seen at the 13 minute mark in London. The Lockheed P-2 Neptune (designated P2V by the United States Navy prior to September 1962) was a Maritime patrol and anti-submarine ...
848 Naval Air Squadron final Sea King HC.4 'Milex' as part of the ongoing transition of the Merlin HC.3/3A helicopter fleet to the Royal Navy's commando naval force
HMS Queen Elizabeth sailed recently for the first phase of trials that will ultimately see the carrier declared safe to fly Chinook, Merlin, Wildcat and Apache attack helicopters in addition to F-35 jets later in the year. The aim of the trials say the Royal Navy is to ‘work out the conditions that the aircraft can operate in while at sea on the carrier’. They will collect data about the landings, take-offs and manoeuvres in different wind and sea conditions, before processing the information and ultimately declaring that the ship can safely operate the aircraft. Until yesterday, 820 Squadron’s aircraft, equipment and personnel have been based ashore and simply flown on and off the ship according to the Royal Navy who say: “Today marks the first time that any Squadron will embark the sh...
The Royal Navy claims to have become the longest-serving air unit in Operation Herrick, Britain's military effort in Afghanistan. By rights, the sailors of 854 Naval Air Squadron should now be back home at their base in Culdrose, Cornwall. Instead they are still working 12-hour watches maintaining and flying the Sea King surveillance helicopters. The aircraft have proved vital in using maritime-designed radar to track insurgents across the sands of Helmand. Because their replacements from 857 NAS were delayed flying missions in Libya, their current tour has had to be extended by fifty per cent beyond the normal three-month aviation duty. Instead of being home for Christmas it will be early 2012 before they see family and friends again. Avionics supervisor, Petty Officer Jacqueline Nourse t...
Made in the late 1960s by Wilding, this U.S. Navy recruiting film "BENEATH NAVY WINGS" begins with an anti-submarine warfare exercise. At :41, an enemy submarine is seen on the surface of the ocean. Above it flies a Lockheed P-2 Neptune, Maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The airplane prepares to make a sonobuoy run and successfully locates the hostile boat. Later, at 2:40, in the scenario that unfolds over the course of the film, the crew of the Neptune tries to return to base but suffers a mechanical issue -- their forward landing gear won't come down. At 4:10, the crew makes a low pass over a U.S. Navy control tower (staffed by a female air traffic controller). The controller verifies that the forward landing gear won't come down. Then, in a scene reminiscent of "Dr. ...

The entire film now uploaded for your viewing pleasure, taken from an old VHS tape. Circa 1978 and with the soundtrack provided by Vangelis, this video follows 12 Squadrons participation in NATO training exercise Opengate, over the Mediterranean. Tightly edited, it covers the initial briefing, deployment to Gibraltar and culminating with a low level anti-ship operation. The part of the enemy ship is played by HMS Kent of the Royal Navy.

My video of the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels flying their first show of the 2016 season at Naval Air Facility El Centro in El Centro, California on March 12th, 2016. I do apologize for the VERY shaky video, but it is quite difficult to record a show and try to watch it at the same time. 6 had multiple problems during the show. The first one after the Sneaks / Vertical Rolls and the second one after the Delta Loop Break Cross. The song for the Fleur De Lis muted the last video, so I had to take it out and upload the video again. I do not take any credit for any of the songs used in this video, and all the credit for each song goes to it's respective artist.
Red Flag is an advanced aerial combat training exercise hosted at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada and Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, the latter location being known as Red Flag – Alaska and being a successor to the previous COPE THUNDER exercise series in the Western Pacific and Alaska.
